i was at a poetry reading the other night for the opening of a poetry book, the new canon. there were several authors there that read one or two of their poems. after wards there was a questionand answer seasion. and it struck me when one of the authors said that poetry isn't an idea, it's words just words. and it suprised me even more when the others agreeed with him. whats your opinion on this? i didn't know if i should put this is general chat or peotry cuz it's about poetry but meh. i think that a poem is an emotion or actually an idea that has been given form, that has been put into words. i think a really good poem is created by first having an idea then molding it into letters. sometimes nothing can be the best idea in the world. but not all the time i think there needs to be a bass to a poem, an idea behind it.
